Rainbow

It’s a shame my good camera’s out of battery (and my charger has mysteriously vanished). My phone really doesn’t do this justice, but wow. It was pretty. Leaned out of my window. :P

Two down, one to go

Right, so I’m done with ex. fac. too now. I’m not as pleased with this one, the question was sorta what I expected, but I still didn’t manage to write very well. On the bright side, I only need to pass this subject. And I will… But I want good grades anyways. I covered the important bits, but this subject is abstract and annoying. So we’ll see. It’s not a top grade anyways. Ah well. Now I need to worry about norwegian history. I fear the worst.

I’m hungry…

One down, two to go!

Final exam in old world history was today. Went alright, happy with the question. It was a quote by a historian, about christianity and the consequenses for classical antiquity, and the idea was that I was gonna debate it. Gave me a chance to go on and on about the roman empire before the conclusion. Was a rather thin debate though, cause I agreed with the quote and found it kinda difficult to come up with stuff to prove it wrong… I think I did okay, not expecting a top grade. Should be enough for at least a C, so I’m pleased. So, with this one down, I have ex.fac to look forward to on tuesday. That’s gonna be dodgey. I don’t remember anything, and I’ve spent all my energy studying old world history. But I have a few days to read up. It’s a shame I’m exhausted.

Bought the christmas presents I’m supposed to. David just sent me money in trade for me putting his name on the card. I’m assuming that will be my future. And any other girls future. I’ll go buy the rest of them (the ones for his family) with him in Scotland, and I’m gonna see what happens if he does the thinking. I’m thinking somewhere in the direction of a shrug followed by “that one looks alright?” on like, december 23rd. I don’t mind… It’s cute.

Classy weddings

All pictures from wedinator.com.

As a sidenote, my last post got over twice as many views as all my other posts the day before. Gee, I wonder if it had anything to do with the “sex”-tag.

Sex fenger!

Final exams coming up

Old world history: November 20th
Ex.Fac: November 24th
Old norwegian history: December 4th

I’m stressed. Nearly done reading what I’m supposed to, but I worry I won’t remember any of it. I probably will… Right? :(

Oooon the bright side I’m going to Scotland on the 6 of Dec and staying until some time early January. Yay :)

Movie ideas I

The adventure

BIG FISH
Director:
Tim Burton
Starring: Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lange, Steve Buscemi
Released: 2003
IMDB
Trailer (opens in a new window)

Synopsis: Throughout his life Edward Bloom (Ewan McGregor) has always been a man of big appetites, enormous passions and tall tales.  In his later years, portrayed by five-time Best Actor Oscar® nominee Albert Finney (Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Erin Brockovich, 2000), he remains a huge mystery to his son, William (Billy Crudup).  Now, to get to know the real man, Will begins piecing together a true picture of his father from flashbacks of his amazing adventures in this marvel of a movie. (From the DVD cover)

Why watch this? I see absolutely no reason for why you shouldn’t. This is a colourful, fascinating, crazy, fantastic fairy tale for adults. Tim Burton is easy to recognise, and this is no exception, although it’s not as dark as Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd etc. This is the story of a son trying to find out who his father really is, behind all the amazing stories. The editing, music, dialogue and general impression is just wonderful, and if you haven’t watched this yet – then I really don’t know what you are waiting for.

The horror movie

[REC]
Directors: Jaume Balagueró & Paco Plaza
Starring: Manuela Velasco, Ferran Terraza, Jorge Serrano, Pablo Rozzo
Released: 2007
IMDB
Trailer (opens in a new window)

Synopsis: REC turns on a young TV reporter and her cameraman who cover the night shift at the local fire station. Receiving a call from an old lady trapped in her house, they reach her building to hear horrifying screams – which begin a long nightmare and a uniquely dramatic TV report. (From IMDB)

Why watch this? It’s hard to find a good horror movie. At least I think so. [REC] is very satisfying, considering the challenging genre. The story is pretty good, and you’re (quite literally) left in the dark not understanding what’s actually going on for a long while. Through the camera man and the ambitious reporter’s eyes, a nightmare unfolds, and due to the ‘panicky’ filming (Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield), you’ll probably find yourself dragged into the story. Remember to pick up a copy with subtitles unless you speak Spanish!

The chick flick

THE HOLIDAY

Director: Nancy Meyers
Starring: Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black
Released: 2006
IMDB
Trailer (opens in a new window)

Synopsis: Iris is in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. Across the globe, Amanda realizes the man she lives with has been unfaithful. Two women who have never met and live 6000 miles apart, find themselves in the exact same place. They meet online at a home exchange website and impulsively switch homes for the holiday. Iris moves into Amanda’s L.A. house in sunny California as Amanda arrives in the snow covered English countryside. Shortly after arriving at their destinations, both women find the last thing either wants or expects: a new romance. Amanda is charmed by Iris’ handsome brother Graham and Iris, with inspiration provided by legendary screenwriter Arthur, mends her heart when she meets film composer Miles. (From IMDB)

Why watch this? Right, listen guys. If your girlfriend is making you watch a chick flick, it might aswell be this one. This is a charming love story, involving all the usual complications and twists a chick flick should include, without getting too cheesy. I find myself  smiling and aww-ing through most of it, and both my brothers and my boyfriend seemed to be okay with this movie.

The documentary

MARCH OF THE PENGUINS

Director: Luc Jacquet
Starring: Lots and lots of penguins
Released: 2005
IMDB
Trailer (opens in a new window)

Synopsis: The cycle of life the Emperor’s penguins is disclosed in this wonderful documentary. Every autumn, these animal leave the safety of the ocean and march along twenty days to a place called “Oamack”. Once there, they select their mates, they procreate, protect and feed their offspring and after months they return to the sea. Later, their progeny go to the ocean, where they stay for four years, and when they reach their adult life, they follow the same pattern of their parents. (From IMDB)

Why watch this? I’m not gonna lie to you. I adore penguins. And this is the best documentary I’ve EVER seen about them. The camera team has spent ages out there in the extreme cold with them, and made an amazing documentary of it. This is more than your average documentary, you really do get involved emotionally in this one. The music is amazing, and footage is crisp and close to what’s happening. (As a side note, I put this movie on when my boyfriend was sleeping, and tried to wake him up through all of it – but only managed in time for the mating. Now he definately thinks I have an awkward penguin fetish.)

The disaster movie

DOOMSDAY

Director: Neil Marshall
Starring: Rhona Mitra, Jeremy Crutchley, Cecil Carter
Released: 2008
IMDB
Trailer (opens in a new window)

Synopsis: A lethal virus spreads throughout the British isles, infecting millions and killing hundreds of thousands. To contain the threat, acting authorities brutally quarantine the country as it succumbs to fear and chaos. The quarantine is successful. Three decades later, the Reaper virus violently resurfaces in a major city. An elite group of specialists, including Eden Sinclair, is urgently dispatched into the still-quarantined country to retrieve a cure by any means necessary. Shut off from the rest of the world, the unit must battle through a landscape that has become a waking nightmare. (From IMDB)

Why watch this? If you have a thing for nasty disasters, this is a good example. I do love a good disaster movie, especially the ones involving a crazy epidemic/pandemic.

Last night, at 4 AM, my doorbell rang. Every now and then lame students thinks it’s funny to wake up other students, but this time it was because the new key card system was up and running. Which means that if you leave your keycard at home, you wont even get in the main door, let alone the door to your, erh, part of the floor… So this person kept ringing my door bell at 4 AM for me to let him or her in. It pissed me off, but I got up and opened the main door with my little door opener thingy. Problem is that this door opener doesnt work on the second door, so I would have to go outside into the hallway to manually unlock it. I was naked, I had mascara all over my face, and I was pissed off. Went back to bed, having my doorbell going bananas. Apparently (s)he was ringing all of our doorbells, cause eventually someone else opened the door. Was so annoying, especially as there is a number you can call if you lock yourself out. But hey, why not wake up all your neighbours at 4 AM instead?

I went back home to my old town today, to my mothers place. Really missed the family dogs, Frøya in particular, and could do with a hug from her. Also it was a golden opportunity to get a janitor to have a look at my window – which I’ve been unable to close properly (an obvious problem now that the Norwegian winter is closing in). Didn’t wanna get in his way, it’s a tiny apartment. I hope he takes a look at it tomorrow, before I come home. Don’t think he’s been there today, they’re supposed to send you a text when the case is closed.

Got a mail this morning from, well, what could be called my landlord (student housing). Sadly they have noticed that I’ve been a bit of a rebel lately, downloading a tv show. Belongs to the story that I don’t like downloading, I prefer having it all in my shelf (looks nicer), and it  is only when I have no other option (e.g it’s not out on DVD yet, or it’s not on in Norway, or whatever) that I fall for the temptation. Which makes me much less of a problem than a whole lot of other people. But yes – I broke the rules. They give you a warning the first time, so I guess I’ll obey the rules from now on. Sigh. Sucky online streaming, here I come.

Cancelled my Aion account, can’t remember if I mentioned that. But seeing as I’m broke, Aion really isn’t a rational thing to spend money on. Not overly bothered by it, but it gave me something to do when I needed a break from other things. Nothing like some braindead grinding with a bunch of bots while watching people insult each others penis size in the chat.

Music

Techno and trance, along with hiphop and rnb, are my least favourite music genres. Other than that, I’ve got to say I enjoy all sorts of music. Beethoven, Dragonforce, Sigur Rós, Donkeyboy, Thomas Dybdahl, Metallica, the Postal Service. Just to mention some examples. And techno/trance and hiphop/rnb doesn’t amuse me. Normally. No rules without exceptions, I find that a couple of Beyonce’s songs are nice. And – don’t fall off your chair – Tiësto. Which leads me to the point. Only once before has he managed to get my attention, with his remix of Adagio for Strings, and I must admit that it was mostly because I like the original. But this time he’s paired with Jónsi from Sigur Rós. I only randomly noticed in one of his TV ads to promote his new CD, and checked it out. And I like it. YES! I like it. David admitted it’s “not bad” – but only after his little “Julie-loves-Tiësto”-dance. Well, I didn’t see the dance, cause it was over MSN, but I can just picture him. ¬_¬ Anyways, have the song.

I was stopped by a wasted man while on my way home from the university the other day. I could see that he had targeted me from a distance, and I figured I might aswell play along. He kept asking me if he could ask me something. Yes, I said. But I could not for the love of god (or whoever) understand what he was trying to ask me. He grabbed my bag and tried to get closer, but he let go when I asked him to. For every step he took towards me, I took two back. He was harmless. Kept telling me how beautiful I am, that he drinks too much and that he needs to speak with his daughter. And I kept telling him to go home and go to bed, and to contact his daughter. Then he grabbed my hand and told me it had been nice speaking to me. Again I had to tell him to let go, and that I was gonna go home. He even asked me if he could see me again, which I gently turned down with a “no.”

I miss David at the moment, feeling a little off. Helpless and lonely. Lonely by choice mind you, I actively push everyone away to a safe distance. And if they get too close, I take a step back. Been doing it my whole life – and even though David understands me better than anyone and see right through me at times, even he doesn’t know everything that’s going on. It’s better that way. I relax more when I don’t have to worry about everyone else.

Other than that, my economy is going straight to hell. Optimistic as I am (HAHAha!). I’m anxious about Christmas and how I’m gonna afford it all, and I feel pushed into a corner (for those of you who haven’t read any of my previous posts, I hate Christmas with passion). Last Christmas cost me a fortune, and it feels like a waste. Although watching the people I care about being happy is nice. I have no clue at all what to get David. Whenever he wants something, he just buys it. So I have to think of something he hasn’t thought of himself. And I’d say my chances of success are about 15%. I was hoping it’d be a few more years before I buy him socks and ties. And I’m positive my mother will phone me, begging me for advice on what to get for him. And I also know that my father wont give a flying fudge about any of this.

Anyways! I should probably do some reading. Soon. Lacking a little inspiration, to put it lightly. Waiting for it to wash over me.

I’m ready.

Any time now.
